On a sunny Sunday afternoon of September 13, 2023,. I found myself immersed in one of the most nostalgic experiences of my life. I still vividly recall it being a sweltering afternoon with no electricity in Boracay. She proposed that I join them for the training, which was set to take place at Ilig-Iligan Beach. Without any hesitation, I gladly accepted her offer, as our room was unbearably hot and I longed for something cooler. When we gathered, there were nearly ten individuals heading to the snorkeling area. The excitement was at the highest level, and I could feel butterflies in my stomach as I prepared to embark on this new adventure.
Before we began the activity, Sir Feb, the head of the team, conducted a warm-up. After the warm-up, he started the briefing for the proper technique of breath holding as a diver, emphasizing the importance of stocking enough air in our lungs. After the breath-holding exercises, they headed to the deeper part of Ilig-iligan, 4-5 meters deep. I don't know how to swim, so I just sat on the shoreline, perched on the rock. Observing them from a distance, they were joyfully taking in the underwater beauty of Ilig-Iligan Beach. The team led by Sir Feb thoroughly enjoyed their practice, particularly learning how to effectively use their fins, and at the same time they did snorkeling.
After a few minutes, Sir Feb returned to the shoreline and came to get me. I explained to him that I didn't know how to swim, but he assured me that I should trust him and promised to take care of me. He handed me a life preserver and gently guided me towards the deeper part, where the rest of the team was enjoying themselves. My heart raced as we slowly approached the snorkeling point. Initially, I was very afraid due to my existing water phobia. However, Sir Feb never ceased to amaze me. He patiently motivated me to simply savor the moment. He provided guidance until I gained the confidence and courage to explore the underwater world.
I was truly captivated by the beautiful coral formations, the vibrant fish, and the swaying sea grass. Gradually, I overcame my fears as I was enchanted by the underwater wonders. We spent about 1-2 hours snorkeling, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. A million thanks to Sir Feb and the team; I am grateful for the opportunity to face and conquer my fear of the water.
If you're planning a trip to Boracay and consider yourself an adventure enthusiast, I highly recommend snorkeling and diving with Sir Feb, a professional diver in Boracay. Don't know how to swim and are afraid of water? No worries, because Sir Feb will take care of you throughout the activity. Your fears will be replaced with happy memories, as proven and tested by me! This was my first time engaging in such water activities, and I relished the adrenaline rush I felt at that moment. It taught me a valuable lesson, I now wholeheartedly agree with the saying "no man is an island," and I can attest to it. We all need the energy of others to break free from our own shells. If Sir Feb with his team hadn't helped me, I wouldn't have been able to experience snorkeling or overcome my fear of the water.
